The role of functional magnetic resonance imaging in clinically diagnosed cases of migraine

Background: Migraine manifests as recurrent headaches associated with nausea, vomiting, and sensory hypersensitivity. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) images activation in different parts of brain either on stimulation or at rest. Aims Objectives: The aim the study was to fMRI changes response visual migraine patients without aura compared healthy volunteers. Materials Methods: A prospective performed 50 clinically diagnosed cases volunteers above 18 years age a 3-Tesla MRI scanner. For fMRI, stimulus presented moving black white checker board pattern. Results: All subjects demonstrated bilateral occipital cortex (predominantly V1 followed by V2 area). Group analysis pattern versus control revealed that 56% (28/50) showed significantly increased cortex, 20% (10/50) no significant difference patterns, 24% total (12/50) had equivocal results. Out 28 14 (50%) left V5 8 (28.5%) V3 4 (14.2%) both 2 (7.1%) right areas. Conclusion: current mainly areas comparison normal subjects. also association between duration absence pharmacological aid.
